BALOCHISTAN: Seven miners were killed when a coal mine collapsed due to a blast in Balochistan Harnai District on Tuesday — the second incident in the area this week.
According to sources, a build-up of methane fuel in the mine brought about an explosion as the workers were working there.
Soon after the explosion, the rescue teams and FC personnel reached the spot and started an operation. After several hours of effort, they recovered all bodies of all of the miners.
Meanwhile, Chief Inspector of Mines Shafqat Fayyaz and the minerals secretary ordered a probe into the incident and registration of a case against mine the contractor and supervisor and for negligence.
Earlier, eight miners had trapped around 11,000 ft under the floor in a mine in the district of Marwar, when a buildup of methane fuelled an explosion. As a result, six workers had been killed, while two others had been rescued.
According to a report, in 12 months, 102 coal miners were killed in Balochistan in 72 incidents. Lacking accurate security steps in the mines, workers have repeatedly been killed in explosions attributable to the buildup of methane fuel.
In 2018, 27 workers died in two separate incidents in Balochistan, and 45 had been killed in an explosion at a coal mine in 2011 in the province.
