Actor Ram Kapoor has spoken out in support of Akshay Kumar amidst ongoing discussions about the latter’s recent string of box office disappointments. Despite some exceptions like Sooryavanshi (2021) and OMG 2 (2023), Akshay has faced criticism for starring in repetitive content.
According to a report by Indian Express, films such as Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, and Ram Setu in 2022, as well as Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in 2024, failed to leave a significant mark at the box office.
Speaking on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube show, Ram Kapoor shifted the blame to the big producers Akshay collaborates with. “It’s not Akshay’s fault,” Kapoor said. “He commits to projects two to three years in advance. Once he has given his word, he doesn’t back out, even if it means risking repetitive content.”
Kapoor emphasized that maintaining good relationships with producers and directors is vital for survival in the industry. “If someone you’ve worked with in the past offers you a new project, you can’t simply refuse. It’s about fostering goodwill,” he explained.
Citing Aamir Khan as an example, Kapoor pointed out that even Aamir took years to streamline his career to focus on one film per year. Similarly, Akshay has no choice but to honor commitments made years ago. Kapoor defended Akshay’s professionalism, praising him as the first to arrive on set and someone who doesn’t retreat to his vanity van during shoots.
Kapoor also criticized the broader industry ecosystem, arguing that it’s unfair to single out Akshay. “Big producers decide what kind of films get made. It’s a team decision, not one person’s,” he said, adding that even iconic filmmakers like David Dhawan and stars like Govinda built their careers on repetitive formulas.
Despite setbacks, Kapoor lauded Akshay’s resilience. “In a cutthroat industry that discards people quickly, Akshay has remained a star for 30 years. That’s no small feat,” he remarked.
Ram Kapoor, currently in the spotlight for his physical transformation, is known for popular TV shows like Kasamh Se and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, as well as films like Karthik Calling Karthik and Shaadi Ke Side Effects.
