LONDON: Black Panther is the latest Avenger to be given the waxwork treatment at Madame Tussauds in London, ahead of its re-opening next week.
The king of Wakanda has joined the Marvel Hall of Heroes at the tourist attraction, which re-opens its doors on Monday as England eases into the next phase out of lockdown, alongside Captain Marvel and the Hulk.
It is dressed in his distinctive Black Panther suit, with an inbuilt “vibranium effect” which makes the outfit light up in purple when visitors touch it. The figure was unveiled by Arsenal footballer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was given a preview of the statue.
Boseman, who played Black Panther, died at the age of 43 last year, after a four-year-long private colon cancer diagnosis. Black Panther was the only Marvel film to get a best picture nod at the Oscars, and grossed more than $1.3bn at the box office.
The new zone features figures of Hollywood royalty, including Angelina Jolie, George Clooney and Tom Hardy, where guests can walk down a red carpet among other things.
“There’s been a number of new interactives which we’ve put into this space. We’ve got a new stage area which guests can join on and collect an award,” Tim Waters, general manager of Madame Tussauds London said.
