The Sindh Pink Football Championship kicked off at the Lyari football stadium in Karachi on Friday, featuring 16 women’s teams from various districts of Sindh.
Opening the event, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the stadium was established on international standards in the Sindh capital for the first time.
Flanked by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Bilawal Bhutto highlighted the importance of youth and women’s empowerment in his address.
“Even today, some people hold regressive views against women and youth. With 70% of our population being young, we are committed to ensuring their development,” said Bilawal.
He added that the young participants of this tournament would represent Pakistan on the global stage.
During the inauguration, Bilawal and the Sindh CM were presented with a football used in the FIFA World Cup 2022, symbolizing the connection between Lyari’s vibrant football culture and global sports.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the significance of the newly built stadium, describing it as an international-standard facility for the youth of Lyari.
He praised the women of Lyari for their active role in society, stating, “Women can become prime ministers not just once but for the second time as well.”
