WASHINGTON: Democratic presidential candidate former US Vice President Joe Biden has begun Election Day with a visit to a church and the grave of his late son, Beau Biden’s grave in Wilmington on Tuesday.
As per details, Americans headed to the polls today to choose either incumbent Donald Trump or challenger Joe Biden as their next president.
Biden, the Democratic former vice president and a career politician, has had a strong and consistent lead in national polls.
But the Republican Trump is close in enough swing states to possibly piece together the 270 state-by-state Electoral College votes needed to hold on to the presidency.
Biden and his wife, Jill, made an early morning stop at St Joseph’s on the Brandywine in Wilmington, Delaware, the church he typically visits on Sunday when home. Biden had granddaughters Finnegan and Natalie in tow.

After a brief church visit, the four walked to Beau Biden’s grave in the church cemetery. Beau died of brain cancer in 2015, and Biden often speaks on the campaign trail of his courage while deployed to Iraq as a major in the Delaware Army National Guard.
Biden’s late wife, Neilia, and infant daughter, Naomi, died in a car crash in 1972, shortly after Biden was elected senator. They are also buried in the cemetery.
Biden, who has framed the contest as a referendum on Trump’s handling of the virus, promised a renewed effort to combat the health crisis, fix the economy and bridge America’s political divide.
More than 99 million Americans have already voted early either in person or by mail, motivated not only by concerns about waiting in line on Election Day amid the pandemic but also by extraordinary levels of enthusiasm after such a polarizing campaign.
