The State Bank of Pakistan has reportedly imposed a complete ban on pen writing on currency notes, which will be effective from July 1, 2025.
According to media sources, the announcement has clarified that if any currency note is found to have any writing or mark made with pen, that note will be considered unacceptable and will not be payable in any bank, financial institution or commercial transaction.
According to the State Bank, the habit of writing on notes with a pen not only affects the external beauty and prestige of the notes, but this practice can also pave the way for fake notes and forgery in the financial system.
Therefore, the central bank has appealed to the public to use only a pencil (pencil instead of an ink pen on notes for calculations or any temporary marking so that the condition and identity of the notes are maintained and they remain effectively usable in the financial system.
The announcement further states that banks and financial institutions have also been instructed not to accept notes with pen writing on them after July 1, 2025.
This step is being taken to promote financial awareness among the public, protect notes, and maintain the financial system in line with international standards.
The State Bank has appealed to the public for cooperation and asked them to follow this new policy and ensure the respect and protection of currency notes.
It should be noted that no official announcement has been made by the State Bank of Pakistan in this regard so far.
