In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that India will no longer engage in bilateral cricket series with Pakistan.
This decision reinforces the longstanding government policy, which restricts bilateral sporting ties between the two nations due to political tensions and security concerns.
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed the board’s stance in a statement to Sports Tak, declaring, “We stand with the victims and strongly condemn the attack.
As per our government’s position, we will not engage in any bilateral series with Pakistan moving forward.” He clarified, however, that India will continue to compete against Pakistan in international events organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC), as such participation is mandated under existing agreements.
India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series during Pakistan’s tour of India in the 2012-13 season. The Indian team last visited Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup and has not played a bilateral series there since the 2005-06 season.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also expressed grief over the attack, saying that the cricketing community is “deeply shocked and anguished” by the tragic loss of innocent lives.
