The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly suffered an embarrassing setback after its attempt to shift IPL matches to Dubai was thwarted due to prior arrangements made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
According to reliable sources, the BCCI approached the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) just yesterday to explore the possibility of hosting Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Dubai.
However, it was informed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had already finalized the venue for Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixtures in the city.
The PCB is said to have completed negotiations and secured the necessary arrangements for PSL matches in Dubai on the night of May 8, with an official announcement made shortly afterward.
Due to this clash in scheduling and Pakistan’s earlier engagement, the IPL matches planned for Dubai have now been postponed indefinitely, as per Indian media reports.
Sources also indicate that BCCI is now considering a new window in September to hold the IPL. However, doing so may jeopardize the scheduling of the Asia Cup, which is also expected to take place around the same time.
This incident marks another blow for BCCI on the global stage and highlights the growing presence and assertiveness of the PCB in international cricket diplomacy.
