The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Friday that banks will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, following the public holiday declared by the federal government.
In an official statement, the central bank said, “The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 28, 2025 (Wednesday) being public holiday on the occasion of ‘Youm-e-Takbeer’, as declared by the Government of Pakistan.”
Youm-e-Takbeer is observed annually on May 28 to commemorate Pakistan’s successful nuclear tests conducted in Chagai in 1998, marking a significant milestone in the country’s defense capabilities.
The federal government issued a formal notification through the Establishment Division to declare the day a public holiday. Moreover, the Sindh government had announced its observance of the holiday a day earlier, confirming a province-wide closure on the same date.
