KATHMANDU: Pakistan women football team was humbled by Bangladesh as it lost 6-0 in the second Group ‘A’ match at the SAFF Women’s Championship on Saturday.
The Pakistan women’s team suffered a humiliating loss, and the 6-0 score-line revealed that they have a long way to go before they can compete with the top teams in the region.
Women’s football in Pakistan has been affected by an institutional crisis in the Pakistan Football Federation. On Wednesday, the national team played India in their first international match since 2014, and despite a valiant defensive effort, they only lost 3-0.
That result had raised expectations that Pakistan would do better against Bangladesh, who have never won the tournament in contrast to India who have been crowned champions in all five editions.
Bangladesh skipper and ace striker Sabina Khatun slammed a hat-trick to secure their second straight win and Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament was confirmed when India crushed the Maldives 9-0 in the group’s other match on Saturday.
