QUETTA/KARACHI: Heavy rains lashed Balochistan over the weekend, triggering landslides, collapsing homes, and claiming at least two lives, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The Turbat-Bulidah Road, previously closed due to landslides, has been reopened, though damage to the Rodban bridge and electricity poles in Tamp, Hoshab, and Buledah continues to hamper relief efforts.
In a separate and tragic incident, a district in Jafarabad was inundated after falling into the Hairden Nullah near Khanpur — close to the Balochistan-Sindh border — on March 24, at approximately 3:30 PM. Rescue teams are assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating with local authorities for emergency response.
Meanwhile, Karachi is bracing for another round of inclement weather as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms across the city from March 25 to 29.
Deputy Director Met Anjum Zeigham warned residents to remain cautious, noting that while conditions may improve slightly after the initial downpours, scattered storms are likely to persist through the week.
Authorities urge citizens in affected areas to avoid low-lying zones and stay tuned to official advisories.
