ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has postponed the hearing of the case against the arrests of Baloch Unity March protesters. Dozens of protesters were arrested between Wednesday and Thursday night.
According to the details, the Baloch Solidarity Council approached the Islamabad High Court yesterday. IG Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan appeared in the court. The relatives of the Baloch youth who died in the alleged police encounter in Turbat are also among the protesters.
At the beginning of December, the Baloch Unity March left Turbat and reached Islamabad on Wednesday night. Today Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Aamir Farooq started the hearing on the petition against the arrest of Baloch protesters.
Petitioner Attaullah Kundi told the court that the SP told them that the buses were parked outside, and told people to go back. “We talked to them for 3 hours, ” the SSP said by adding that the Prime Minister has directed the protesters to be sent back.
Attaullah Kundi alleged that the police forcibly made all the women board the buses and some students were also forced to sit in the buses, then the female students of Islamabad were released. When the whole matter came to light, the drivers refused to run the buses.
During the hearing, lawyer Attaullah Kundi said, “The IG Islamabad had also said that somehow the protesters should be sent away from there. Then the doors of the police station were closed. At 5 am, the police statement came out that we have safely brought the protestors to their place.”
When the hearing resumed after the break, the court questioned IG Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan and remarked where the police sent the arrested protestors. The Islamabad High Court remarked that it is appropriate that one should satisfy the petitioners and their lawyers. Street crime has increased in Islamabad, they don’t do the work they are supposed to do. Among their own staff, someone’s mobile, someone’s wallet has been stolen.
The Chief Justice remarked that yesterday you had said that the women are not in your custody, then they have gone. IG Islamabad explained that transport was arranged for them. Later, the High Court adjourned the hearing of the case.
