Babar Azam has been shortlisted for the prestigious ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award, as part of the ICC Awards 2024 nominations revealed on Sunday. Azam’s exceptional performance, leading the run-scorer chart with 738 runs in T20I cricket, earned him a spot among the top contenders for the honor.
The second day of the ICC Awards 2024 shortlist unveiled nominees across multiple categories, celebrating standout performances in international cricket over the past year. In the Men’s ODI category, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Kusal Mendis, Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai, and the West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford are also in the running for the ODI Cricketer of the Year award, showcasing remarkable achievements in the 50-over format.
In the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year race, Babar Azam is joined by India’s Arshdeep Singh, Australia’s Travis Head, and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, all of whom have had impressive performances across the year.
The Women’s categories also saw exciting nominees. In the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year race, Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka, India’s Smriti Mandhana, Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt are the frontrunners. For the Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, Athapaththu, Wolvaardt, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, and Ireland’s Orla Prendergast have been nominated.
