LAHORE: Pakistan cricket superstar Babar Azam is reportedly poised to reclaim the captaincy of the national team.
Media reports claim that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that under new PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Babar Azam will probably be named captain again. Naqvi was recently elected to the Pakistan Cricket Board leadership, having previously held the position of acting chief minister of the Pakistani province of Punjab.
Some PCB sources have told Pakistan media that the new PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is going to undertake significant chances under his leadership. Babar Azam will be renamed as Pakistan skipper once again.
The right-handed batter resigned from his captaincy during the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup in India. Pakistan performed appallingly in the competition, missing out on making it to the semi-finals. They also suffered a crushing loss to Team India and a loss to Afghanistan.
Following Azam’s exit, the PCB named Shan Masood as the Test captain and Shahid Afridi as the T20 captain. Nonetheless, throughout their first series, both captains had to overcome enormous obstacles.
Recent results under their direction include a 3-0 loss in a Test series against Australia and a 4-1 loss in a T20I series against New Zealand, indicating a turbulent time for Pakistani cricket.
