QUETTA: At least four persons was killed and 14 others sustained injuries in a blast at Jinnah Road of Quetta city on Thursday, according to police.
Civil Hospital Quetta Medical Superintendent Dr Javed Akhtar has confirmed the death of four persons and said the provision of immediate and proper treatment to the injured was being ensured.
According to details, the blast took place near the Science College at Jinnah Road. A police spokesperson has confirmed that the explosive device was planted near a vehicle.
The spokesperson further said that the nature of the blast is still being investigated, while security forces and rescue officials have reached the site of the explosion.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo expressed grief over the loss of life in the incident and issued directives for the provision of best possible medical treatment to the injured.
In a statement, Bizenjo said he was saddened by the loss of lives in the “act of terrorism”, and that those targeting innocent citizens deserved strict punishment. He expressed dissatisfaction over security arrangements in Quetta.
The chief minister also sought a report on the incident and security arrangements in the city from the Balochistan inspector general of police. He also directed the CM’s adviser on interior to review the security plan for the city.
“It is the responsibility of police and security agencies to protect the lives and properties of people. Citizens cannot be left at the mercy of terrorists,” he added.
On December 18, at least one person was killed and 10 others were injured in a blast in Quetta’s Kandhari Bazar on Saturday.
Civil Hospital Quetta spokesperson Dr Wasim Baig confirmed the death of one person and said 10 others were brought to the hospital in injured condition.
According to the Counter-Terrorism Department spokesperson, the blast was caused by explosive material fitted on a motorcycle. He said many vehicles had been damaged in the blast.
