GILGIT: Muhammad Asif Hazara won the South Super Flyweight title of World Boxing Association in the International Professional Boxing Festival being played at Lalak Jan Stadium in Gilgit.
Muhammad Asif beat Indonesian Boxer Razi Akbar in 10th round competition to win the title in the biggest professional boxing event in the history of Pakistan.
President Dr Arif Alvi, in a statement congratulating Muhammad Asif, said youth of Pakistan have a lot of talent in the field of sports. The president said the youth can further shine the name of the country with encouragement and better training.
Meanwhile, another Pakistani Boxer Usman Wazir also won the World Boxing Association Asia Welterweight title. He knocked out his rival boxer belonging to Thailand.
Top boxers from ten countries including Indonesia, Thailand, UAE, Philippines, Nigeria, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Cameroon, Korea, and host Pakistan are participating in the mega event.

Hundreds of people gathered at Lalik Jan Stadium in Gilgit to watch the WBA Asia Welterweight Championship bouts. The event was organized by Pakistani boxing champion Usman Wazeer with the support of the Force Command Northern Areas.
Pakistan’s rising boxing star Asif Hazara who arrived from Quetta to participate in the matches said it was the biggest such event in Pakistan.
“We are here to promote the sport of boxing as there is no dearth of talent among the people of GB in the field of boxing,” he added.
“There is no support from the government to promote this sport in the country. If they pay attention to this sport, more boxers will be able to make our country proud.”
Nigerian boxer Abiola Mashood Atobateli said that it was his first visit to the region and he loved it South Korean boxer Taekyum King also enjoyed Pakistani hospitality.
