Section 144 has been enforced around the Provincial Assembly in Lahore, the assembly has been closed while Rangers have been called in the city for 15 days. During the ongoing political crisis in the province, a heavy contingent of police has been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
According to details, the Punjab government summoned Rangers to maintain the law and order situation in Lahore for 15 days. Section 144 has been implemented within a radius of 500 yards around the Punjab Assembly.
Under section 144, a gathering of more than 4 persons in the vicinity of the Punjab Assembly has been banned. Under the 16 MPO, the police were given the power to arrest any person. The Deputy Speaker had called a meeting of the Provincial Assembly.

The Punjab Assembly was closed yesterday after a political crisis erupted after the meeting was convened. Members are not allowed to enter. Barbed wire was laid around the house. A heavy contingent of police was deployed for security purposes.
It may be recalled that yesterday the Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari had convened a meeting of the Punjab Assembly in which voting for the election of Chief Minister was to be held. Speaker Pervaiz Elahi and PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz are the chief ministerial candidates.
