A major robbery has shaken Karachi, as armed criminals carried out what is being described as the city’s largest heist of the year.
The incident occured in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area, where a citizen was robbed of 200 tolas of gold and $100,000 as soon as he reached his home.
According to police sources, the suspects followed the victim from Shahrah-e-Faisal and then attacked him upon his arrival at his residence. Four armed motorcyclists carried out the robbery and fled the scene.
The total value of the stolen property is reported to be over 130 million rupees.
At the time of the incident, Safe City cameras and CCTV surveillance were operational in the area; however, the suspects have not yet been arrested.
Police have collected evidence and obtained CCTV footage from various locations.
According to the police, a case has been registered at Bahadurabad Police Station on the complaint of the affected citizen, Syed Moaz Ali, against four unidentified suspects.
On Monday, eight armed suspects allegedly looted several jewelry shops in Awami Colony before fleeing the scene.
According to police, the suspects arrived on a car and motorcycles. Initial investigations, based on the statement of a security guard, revealed that the robbers broke the locks of at least four jewelry shops and made off with all the gold and cash inside.
The incident was reported to Awami Colony police, who reached the spot soon after and called in the crime scene unit to collect evidence. Further investigations are under way.
