ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the anti-government long march will be started from Karachi on March 26 and will arrive in Islamabad on March 30.
The PDM chief, addressing a news conference along with PPP Charmin Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, said, “We appeal to the entire nation to play their part in ousting this illegal and unconstitutional government.”
The JUI-F chief said another meeting of the Opposition’s leadership will be held on March 15 to discuss the protesters’ stay in the capital.
He said the special committee of PDM has prepared the final recommendations for the long march. “Sit-in will continue until the goal is achieved, the committee proposed,” he added.
Fazal disclosed that a central camp will be formed near Faizabad to welcome all the rallies of PDM along with camps to be set up at Rawat Chowk, Chowki No 26, Coca-Cola Factory, and Bara Kahu.
The PDM chief condemned the attack on PML-N leaders outside the parliament, blaming the PTI ‘goons’ for being responsible for it.
PDM has approved the name of newly-elected Senator Yousuf Raza Gillani as the joint candidate of the opposition alliance for the Senate chairmanship, he announced.
Sources claimed that after finalizing Yousuf Raza Gilani for Senate chairman candidate, the PDM leadership failed to reach a consensus over the name of the joint candidate for the deputy chairman Senate.
According to an inside story on the PDM meeting, the participants especially PML-N leaders suggested focusing on the movement against the incumbent government as others added that the opposition alliance was getting diverted from its prime motive.
“Is the alliance formed to bring an in-house change,” leaders from JUI-F, PML-N and others asked as PPP and ANP opposed their idea.
The PML-N and JUI-F were of the view that the alliance was dragged into by-polls and senate elections and said that vote of confidence from PM Imran Khan has emboldened the incumbent government as he responded to the PDM’s moves.
