Kohat: Ismatullah Khan, a Provincial Assembly candidate representing the Awami National Party (ANP), passed away on Tuesday in Kohat. The unfortunate incident occurred due to a sudden cardiac arrest.
Ismatullah Khan had been contesting from the PK-91 constituency on the ANP’s ticket. The news of his sudden demise has halted all election activities in PK-91, according to the Returning Officer (RO), Irfanullah Marwat.
RO Irfanullah Marwat expressed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will make the crucial decision regarding whether to proceed with the scheduled elections in the constituency or to take alternative measures. The unexpected loss of the candidate has cast a somber atmosphere over the electoral proceedings, and the local community mourns the untimely passing of Ismatullah Khan. The fate of the election in PK-91 now rests in the hands of the ECP, awaiting their official decision on the matter.
Earlier on January 20, the ECP decided to postpone the general elections in the National Assembly’s NA-83 and 85 constituencies in Sargodha following the untimely death of candidate Sadiq Ali.
