KARACHI: In yet another major crackdown on narcotics, Quaidabad police arrested a woman drug dealer, Nargis alias Malika, and seized over 35 kilogrammes of hashish worth more than Rs 6 million, officials said on Wednesday.
The arrest comes days after the detention of another alleged female drug peddler, Anmol alias Pinky, whom police had earlier dubbed a ‘Drug Queen’ for her role in supplying narcotics to upscale areas of the city.
According to a statement issued by the police, the latest operation was carried out on a tip-off in the Swati neighbourhood near Khudadad Cemetery, where Nargis alias Malika was apprehended. Officials described her as a “highly wanted accused” involved in inter-city drug trafficking.
SSP Malir Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said that 35kg and 265 grams of hashish were recovered from the suspect’s possession during the raid. In addition, more than Rs 100,000 in cash was also seized.
“The accused was supplying drugs to various posh localities of Karachi as well as to districts in inner Sindh,” SSP Pirzada said. “The consignment was to be distributed in different areas of the metropolis, particularly in affluent neighbourhoods.”
The SSP added that Nargis alias Malika was not operating alone. “More associates of the arrested woman are also involved in this network,” he said, noting that the group had been active in the supply and sale of narcotics across the city.
Police said raids were being conducted to apprehend other members of the ring. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify additional facilitators.
