Another tragic incident has claimed the life of a young child in Karachi, after a three-year-old boy fell into an uncovered manhole in Faqeera Goth.
According to initial reports, the child, identified as Asad, was playing near his home when he accidentally slipped into the open drain.
Family members rushed to rescue him, but he could not be saved. Speaking to the media, the child’s uncle alleged that the family is facing pressure to keep the incident quiet, raising concerns about accountability.
The incident has once again brought attention to the persistent issue of uncovered manholes in the city, which continue to pose serious risks to residents, particularly children.
In late 2025, several similar tragedies were reported across Karachi. In one case, a three-year-old boy named Ibrahim lost his life after falling into a manhole near Nipa Chowrangi. His body was recovered nearly 15 hours later, with residents criticizing the delayed rescue response. In another incident later that month, an eight-year-old child, Dilbar, died after falling into an open drain in Korangi.
These repeated incidents triggered protests by citizens, who accused civic authorities of negligence and failure to ensure basic public safety. Residents demanded urgent measures to address the hazardous conditions across the city.
