Commandos of Special Security Unit (SSU) along with other law enforcement agencies took an active part in operations against the hardened criminals and terrorists throughout the year.
In total, 148 raids were conducted in the collaboration with law enforcement agencies which resulted in the arrest of 163 accused. The cache of explosives, weapons, ammunition, vehicles, mobile phones, laptops, and important documents was recovered from their possession.
The Special Security Unit S.W.A.T team comprising 06-member showcased remarkable skills in the second edition of the UAE S.W.A.T challenge 2020, hosted by Dubai Police at the Al Ruwayaa Training City where the team staged mock hostage rescues, raid challenges, the rescue of injured officers, the tower challenge and overcoming obstacle courses.

Royal Highnesses Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana of Greece, Additional Chief Secretary Home Sindh Dr. Usman Chachar, DG Rangers Sindh Syed Omar Ahmed Bukhari, Delegation of Civil Servants led by Additional Commissioner Karachi II Dr. Waqas Roshan, Advisor to CM Sindh Murtaza Wahab and under training ASsP of 47th Specialized Training Program visited Special Security Unit Headquarters and appreciated the professionalism and crucial role played by SSU in maintaining law and order.
During PSL matches in February 2020, under the directives of former IGP Sindh Dr. Kaleem Imam and DIG S&ESD Maqsood Ahmed, a comprehensive security plan was prepared by Security Division in collaboration with Special Security Unit were, 02 SsP, 08 DSsP, 33 NGOs, 696 SSU commandos and 33 lady commandos performed their duties. Besides, another security plan for PSL matches prepared in November 2020 in which 1538 personnel of the Security Division including 1038 SSU commandos performed security duties. DIG Security and Emergency Services Division felicitated the personnel of the Security Division and lauded their efforts in peacefully conducting the event.
A large number of SSU Commandos along-with other law enforcement agencies performed security duties on the occasion of Eid-Milad-Un-Nabi (S.A.W.W), Youm e Ashoor and Shuhada e Karbala. Snipers of SSU were stationed at the suburbs of the procession routes and other sensitive locations ensuring the peaceful conduction of the events.
SSU commando Khan Saeed Afridi representing Pakistan and demonstrating high quality of skills and techniques won the gold medal in Thai Boxing Championship held in Bangkok by defeating Chinese contender.
Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon visited the Police Emergency Response and Crisis Management Centre established at SSU Headquarters. The Crisis Management Centre was established to provide timely and effective guidance for the health and safety of the public amid the coronavirus crisis and lockdown. Apart from this, Additional IG presided over a meeting regarding the welfare of corona infected police personnel and donation of plasma by the recovered personnel for under treatment corona patients to save precious lives. It is pertinent to mention here that around 201 SSU Commandos were infected with coronavirus while performing their duties.
DIG S& ESD Maqsood Ahmed appreciated and announced a reward of Rs. 10,000 for the SSU commandos donating plasma for the coronavirus patients. SSU became the first organization to donate plasma to save the lives of coronavirus patients.
Senior officers of the Special Security Unit under the special directives of DIG S&ESD Maqsood Ahmed visited the residences of martyred SSU Commandos on the eve of ‘Youm-e-Shuhda Police’. A distinctive ceremony was held at SSU Headquarters to pay rich tribute to the police martyrs who laid their lives in the line of duty. Moreover, 01 SP, 01 DSP, and a commando of SSU embraced martyrdom due to coronavirus.
