ISLAMABAD: A virtual summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) will be held on Monday which would identify steps for enhanced coordination among member states in their fight against the novel COVID-19.
The summit of the heads of state and government of NAM member states has been convened at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, in his capacity as current chair of the movement. President Dr Arif Alvi will represent Pakistan at the summit, said the FO press release.
The online session will conclude with a political declaration of the movement “uniting against the coronavirus” as well as identified steps for enhanced coordination among NAM members in their common fight against the epidemic.
The NAM represents the biggest grouping of countries outside the United Nations, comprising 120 developing countries from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. A number of heads of state and government will take part in the virtual summit.
Pakistan is an active member of the movement and has contributed and shaped the movement’s position on a range of political, economic, legal, and social issues.
President Dr. Arif Alvi had represented Pakistan at the 18th Summit of NAM in Baku in October 2019.
