The Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi has once again issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan, sister of the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in connection with a case relating to the 26 November protest. This marks the 14th time the court has issued such warrants.
During today’s hearing, Judge Amjad Ali Shah expressed strong displeasure over the continued absence of both Aleema Khan and her counsel. The court ordered the issuance of non-bailable warrants not only for her but also for her two sureties.
Prosecutor Zaheer Shah argued that the accused was deliberately delaying the trial. He told the court that despite repeated warrants, she had failed to appear and had sought adjournments in an attempt to hinder proceedings.
The prosecution further stated that the case had entered its final stage, with cross-examination of only two witnesses remaining. However, the accused’s lack of cooperation was causing further delay.
The court directed the police to execute the warrants without delay and adjourned the hearing until 24 February.
The case relates to a protest registered on 26 November at Sadiqabad police station, where proceedings are being conducted under anti-terrorism laws.
The court has taken strict measures on multiple occasions due to Aleema Khan’s repeated absence, yet her arrest has not so far been carried out.
