Once considered a powerhouse in Bollywood, surpassing even the three Khans in terms of success rate, Akshay Kumar has been going through a rough phase in recent years, with most of his recent films failing to make a significant impact at the box office.
According to Indian media, after more than three years, his fortunes seem to be changing with the release of his latest anti-Pakistan action film, Sky Force, which has delivered impressive results. Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, and featuring Veer Pahariya, Sky Force recorded an India nett collection of 27.5 crore on Sunday, marking a 25% increase from its Saturday earnings of Rs22 crore, as per early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk.

This brings the film’s total domestic nett collection to Rs61.75 crore. Notably, the Sunday collection is over 120% higher than the film’s opening day earnings of Rs12.25 crore. The film recorded an overall occupancy rate of 42.44% in the Hindi market, with the morning shows having an occupancy rate of 26.78%, which rose to 47.22% in the afternoon and peaked at 56.52% in the evening, before dropping to 39.24% during night screenings.
Since the success of Sooryavanshi (2021), even Akshay’s most anticipated big-budget films have struggled at the box office, with the exception of OMG 2, which primarily starred Pankaj Tripathi. Sky Force, with a reported budget of Rs160 crore, shows strong potential to cross its break-even point, though it will face stiff competition from Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming action thriller, Deva, releasing this Friday.
