MUZAFFRABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister (PM) Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi has tendered his resignation from office.
The AJK PM has sent his resignation to the president Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The decision came after Qayyum Niazi met PTI chairman Imran Khan and informed him about the alleged conspiracy against him in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi sacked five members of his cabinet for file a no-confidence motion against him.
A spokesperson for the AJK PM confirmed the development and said that those who had been terminated included Tanveer Ilyas, Abdul Majid Khan, Ali Shan, Khawaja Farooq and Chaudhry Muhammad Akbar. They were terminated from the AJK cabinet over misconduct, corrupt practices and suspicious activities, the spokesperson said.
A day earlier, Niazi met former prime minister Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence in Islamabad. According to media reports, Niazi accused former Kashmir affairs minister Ali Amin Gandapur of conspiring against him after receiving Rs300 million.
Imran Khan was shocked by the accusations and formed a probe committee headed by Shah Mehmood Qureshi. However, the AJK prime minister was told that the probe committee did not find any evidence in support of the bribery allegations.
Several Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) lawmakers submitted the motion against their party’s prime minister in the AJK assembly secretariat on April 12. The motion was signed by 25 members of the legislative assembly including a minister and senior Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan has been proposed as successor.
