Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Secretary for Information Rashid Hanif has claimed that the banned Awami Action Committee includes a significant number of miscreants, militants, and individuals linked to Fitna al-Khawarij.
He said the relevant authorities possess evidence to support these allegations.
Speaking at a press conference alongside a spokesperson for the AJK Police, Hanif said certain elements had attempted to influence the AJK elections. He added that maintaining law and order is the state’s fundamental responsibility and that the government would fulfill that duty under all circumstances.
Hanif further alleged that the banned Awami Action Committee comprises armed individuals and militants rather than ordinary citizens, claiming they are operating under the guise of protest. He also alleged that these elements were using civilian populations as human shields.
The information secretary urged the public to avoid rumors and misinformation by staying in contact with the administration and relevant authorities and relying only on verified information.
During the same press conference, the AJK Police spokesperson claimed that some individuals participating in the protests were carrying modern automatic weapons. According to the spokesperson, gunfire from those individuals injured five police officers.
These allegations have not been independently verified. The banned Awami Action Committee had not issued an immediate response to the claims at the time of reporting.
