Karachi: Another cluster of HIV cases has been reported at a hospital in Karachi, prompting health authorities to launch an investigation into the source of the infections.
According to hospital officials, 15 children aged between four months and eight years have tested positive for HIV at the Social Security Hospital in Landhi.
The cases have raised fresh concerns following earlier reports of HIV infections at Valika Hospital, where authorities had also initiated an inquiry.
Officials said the affected children were identified during medical screening, after which further investigations were launched. Health authorities are now tracing the possible source of the infections and conducting additional screening to determine whether more patients may have been exposed.
Medical experts are reviewing the children’s treatment histories, including any blood transfusions, injections, or medical procedures they may have undergone, as part of efforts to establish how the virus was transmitted. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the infections or whether the cases are linked.
The Sindh health authorities have assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway. Officials said necessary measures will be taken based on the findings, while surveillance and testing have been intensified to prevent any further spread.
