LAHORE: A one-month ban on the sale of sugar for commercial use has been implemented in Punjab.
Punjab chief secretary ordered the provincial field officers to strictly implement a ban for a month on the sale of sugar for commercial use. He also directed them to allow mills to sell the basic commodity for domestic consumption only.
The Punjab chief secretary said that the hike in sugar prices was unjustified. “An artificial shortage of the commodity is being created to increase the rate against which stern action would be taken,” he said.
The chief secretary reviewed the prices and availability of essential commodities, especially flour and sugar. He also reviewed the arrangements made for Sahulat Bazaars, and action being taken against hoarders in the province.

Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan, earlier this week had ordered a nationwide crackdown against hoarders who are responsible for creating artificial inflation.
He chaired a meeting of the federal cabinet where he emphasized the need for keeping an eye on the demand and supply chain of food items and their prices. “I have been saying from day one that prices should be brought under control,” he said.
He was asked to explain when the situation of wheat and flour supply in the country would become satisfactory. He was also asked to provide a timeline in this regard so the people could be informed about it.
