A harrowing incident has stirred nationwide outrage after a young Baloch woman named Shetal was executed on the orders of a tribal jirga—merely for marrying a man of her own choosing.
Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sardar Sarfraz Bugti, has taken notice of the incident and directed the immediate arrest of those involved.
According to details, more than 20 armed individuals allegedly abducted a couple into the mountains and brutally killed them. A video of the incident later went viral on social media.
A distressing video that circulated widely on social media depicts armed tribal men escorting Shetal to a remote mountainous area. Moments later, gunshots are heard, and she collapses to the ground. The brutality, captured in full view of the camera, sparked a wave of public anger and once again brought to light the entrenched, patriarchal violence faced by Baloch women—often in silence and without recourse.

Meanwhile, government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that the Chief Minister, after reviewing the video, has ordered a thorough investigation and the swift arrest of the perpetrators.

He added that efforts are underway to identify the exact location of the incident and those responsible. “Such barbaric acts are intolerable,” he said, emphasizing that the culprits will be brought to justice.
The killing, reportedly authorized by a jirga (a tribal council), is being condemned as an honor killing—an archaic form of punishment imposed on women who defy familial or tribal authority.
