An explosion at a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department training facility has killed three deputies, Fox News and local media reported on Friday.
The blast was reported at the Biscailuz Center Academy Training facility in East Los Angeles at about 7:30 a.m.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed that an explosion occurred at the Biscailuz Center Academy Training in East Los Angeles. The spokesperson said the cause was under investigation and that they were not yet ready to confirm any deaths or injuries.
Additional injuries have also been reported, though the number and nature of them has not been disclosed.
Aerial footage from Sky5 shows an LASD vehicle with a shattered rear windshield and a nearby backpack on the parking lot asphalt near what appears to be the department’s explosives trucks.
Moreover, a tarp over the bomb trucks was visibly damaged, presumably in the explosion.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on social media that she had spoken U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli “about what appears to be a horrific incident that killed at least three at a law enforcement training facility in Los Angeles.”
