An application has been filed in the Lahore High Court on Saturday seeking the restoration of the Punjab Assembly.
Filed on behalf of a citizen, Sharafat Ali, the petition says that since the election to the dissolved assembly has not been held within the prescribed constitutional period of 90 days, the elected provincial assembly should be restored.
Punjab governor, chief secretary, and former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi have been made a party in the application.
He contended that there is a deadlock existed between the ruling PDM and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf over the election date and there seemed no chance of elections to the assembly within the prescribed time frame.
The petitioner sought restoration of the assembly on the plea that the caretaker government had completed its stipulated tenure of 90 days and that the election for the legislatures of the Punjab assembly was not in sight.
