ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari has said over 900 expatriates had donated Rs 45 million in the PM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund via his ministry’s web portal.
In a statement Bukhari said the philanthropists from 45 countries had donated generously since the beginning of the portal, adding that most of the donors were from the United Kingdom and the United States.
He said a large number of overseas Pakistanis had taken responsibility for the ration of 2,400 families and they will give cash through the portal.
The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development had established a portal on 13 April to accept the expats’ donations for the PM’s corona relief fund.
Zulfikar Bukhari also announced the creation of an overseas tiger force. The force would give rations to those overseas Pakistanis who were stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
On April 12, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad and had presented a cheque worth Rs 10.182 million for COVID-19 relief fund on the behalf of officials of the Foreign Ministry.
Senior officials of Chinese companies had also called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and donated Rs 5 million for PM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund. They officials had also donated medical supplies worth Rs 3 million that includes 30,000 masks, 100 N-95 masks, and 300 protection suits to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
On April 5, the premium global smartphone brand, OPPO had announced to give Rs 6.2 million to the Prime Minister Corona Relief Fund.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi Chairman, Javed Afridi and cricketer Azhar Ali have announced to donate Rs 1 million and Rs 10 million respectively, for Prime Minister’s corona relief fund.
