KARACHI: Four policemen were arrested on Wednesday after they resorted to aerial firing in Karachi’s PIB Colony which resulted in the death of a woman.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Shakir Hussain, a brawl had broken out between volunteers of two welfare organisations who had arranged a ration distribution campaign in the PIB Colony.
The police official said, receiving information about the scuffle, a police team reached at the spot to control the situation meanwhile the police used aerial firing to disperse the two fighting groups.
One bullet hit a woman, who was standing on the roof top of her house. A 26-year-old woman, Saba sustained a head injury and was shifted to a hospital where she succumbed to her injury.
Later, the body was moved to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre where a post-mortem examination has yet to be conducted.
The SHO said that the police were waiting for a medical report and a complaint by the victim’s family to file formal charges against the arrested cops.
A senior police official said that the victim’s family has decided not to register a FIR. A case will be registered nonetheless, with the state as complainant, because “no one is above the law”, the official added.
