36-month-old polio victim dies in Sindh

SUJAWAL: Polio virus claimed life of a 36-month-old infant in Sindh on Thursday. This makes it the ninth case of polio in the province.
According to Emergency Operation Center for polio, the victim, Aman Omer belonged to Badhar Mohalla in the district of Sujawal.
The infant was malnourished and reportedly died because of kidney failure.

The child was taken to multiple healthcare providers after he developed diarrhea, fever and vomiting on September 10th. The infant was then taken to a local faith healer as well who gave two injections to the deceased child.
His family took him to Civil hospital, Thatta when he could not walk properly. A pediatrician, Dr. Maqsood examined and diagnosed him with a case of acute flaccid paralysis.
Doctor suggested the family to take the child to NICH Karachi. He was admitted in a critical condition where he passed away because of Kidney failure.

The child died before his stool samples were collected but three contact samples confirmed the presence of polio virus.
