The decision to move forward with 3 Idiots 2 reportedly came after Hirani and Aamir Khan temporarily paused work on their planned biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke to ensure the script was perfect.
Hirani dedicated time to expanding the sequel into a full-fledged screenplay that honors the original’s massive cultural impact.
Released in 2009, 3 Idiots became a global phenomenon, setting box office records and sparking a nationwide conversation about India’s education system. Its sequel is arguably one of the most awaited announcements in Indian cinema history.
