KARACHI: Two personnel of Sindh Rangers were injured in exchange of fire with suspected street criminals in Karachi’s Malir area on Wednesday.
According to details gathered by the MM News, Rangers personnel were deployed at a post in Malir were on snap checking routine when they signalled four suspects riding on two bikes to stop. The suspects, however, fled from the scene, forcing Rangers personnel to go after them.
During the hot pursuit, suspects opened fire on Rangers personnel, injuring two of them before disappearing from the scene.
SSP Malir Irfan Bahadur told media that the incident took place in Malir district, Manzil Pump Guhi Goth area, and those injured were identified as Shahid and Ramzan. The injured personnel were rushed to the hospital for treatment while a search operation was kicked out around the crime scene.

Later in the day, a Sindh Rangers spokesperson narrated the incident, adding that raids were being conducted to arrest the culprits, He urged citizens to keep a an eye on all such anti-social elements, and report any suspicious activities to Rangers helpline 1101 or its WhatsApp number 03479001111.
It may be mentioned here that the crime rate in Karachi has registered a significant increase during recent weeks. The same has echoed at a Senate committee meeting in Islamabad earlier this week when police officials were quoted as saying that 42,669 crime incidents were reported in 2011, 39,694 in 2015, 61,244 in 2020 and 84,045 in 2021.
Besides these figures, some 385 people were killed in 2018 and 393 people in 2021, while 369 suspected killers were arrested till August 31, 2022 in the metropolis.
Also, 2,211 vehicles were snatched, 26,846 vehicles were stolen, and 15,678 mobile phones were snatched in 2018. In 2021, 4,783 vehicles were snatched, 49,608 vehicles were stolen, and 25,000 mobile phones were snatched.
Karachi police chief, however, begged to differ and insisted that crime rate was lower then those of Lahore and other cities.
