Clean drinking water is a guarantee of health and life, but the residents of the capital do not have this basic facility, and most of the residents in various sectors are forced to drink contaminated water.
According to a media report, most of the water filtration plants under the Federal Development Authority (CDA) lack modern filtration systems. The CDA operates 98 water filtration plants in various sectors and model villages of Islamabad, which are managed by five NGOs.
A recent report by CDA acknowledges that 16% of the filtration plants in Islamabad provided unsafe water. The report recommended installing modern systems in these plants.
In this regard, CDA’s Director General of Water Management, Sardar Khan Zamri, told the media that due to the presence of chloroform, the results of 2 to 3 percent of the filtration plants are acceptable.
He mentioned that to permanently resolve this issue, modern systems would be installed in the water filtration plants to address the problems arising from groundwater.
The people of Islamabad say that the government should pay special attention to this issue, and authorities should regularly inspect the filtration plants.
