11 soldiers were martyred when terrorists rammed explosive-laden vehicle into the checkpost in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a terrorist attack was attempted on February 16 at a joint security forces and law enforcement check post in Bajaur district. The attackers were identified as militants described by the military as “Khwarij” linked to what it termed an Indian proxy group, Fitna al Khwarij.
In its statement, the ISPR said security forces responded promptly, engaging the assailants and killing 12 of them.
During the assault, the attackers allegedly rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post. The resulting blast caused significant structural damage, leading to the collapse of part of the infrastructure and the deaths of 11 security personnel, who were described as having embraced martyrdom.
In a separate incident in Shangla district, three policemen were killed during a search-and-strike operation in the Kabalgram area of Martung tehsil.
According to a police official, militants opened fire on the police party, triggering an exchange in which two attackers were shot dead. The operation was ongoing, and additional police contingents had been deployed to the area.
